this painting was created for the juried show ‘figure, form, and decay’ at S.P.Q.R. gallery in colorado springs. i grappled with the idea of decay, not wanting to paint it in its most obvious and repulsive sense. eventually, i thought of the decay that occurs in the form of memory. working from an old photo, i explored the idea that as those before us pass away, memories fade, and as the next generation too passes, memories of those once living fade into obscurity..
